Pretty above average breakfast food. Service was good too. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here but it is decent enough. 7/10

Would like to rate this a 3.5 stars. I bumped the review up to 4 stars based on the taste of the food. The cream of chicken soup was delicious. It was served at the perfect temperature. I got the salad with chicken fingers on it. I love the garlic salad dressing, which many restaurants do not have. A few things brought my review down. 1st - I felt like the server was rushing us. I don't know why she would because the restaurant was not full so it wasn't like there was a line waiting for a table. 2nd - On the menu, under the Salad section, it said 'Any of these salads can be chopped for an additional $1.00. Really? I've never seen an upcharge for a chopped salad before. I just thought that was weird. I cut up the salad myself once it arrived. 3rd - Canned peas! My husband reminded me that we used to frequent the Hi-View 20 or so years ago. He said we stopped going there because I was upset that they served canned peas. If fresh peas are not possible then I think frozen peas would be the next best alternative. But those yellow-greenish canned peas? No way. Well, check out the photo I posted. They are still serving canned peas.

I grew down the street from here. This place is always slammed on Sunday and to be honest I don't know why. Villa Park has few family/breakfast places in town and none of them are all that great. I think the soups here are always done well. The rest of the food is extremely "meh". I would say it's never terrible but it's not memorable either. People will continue to go here and receive average service, for average food and about average prices. It's the definition of average.

After my third visit, I have made my decision not to continue supporting Hi-View with my patronage. Coffee stinks. Food is just okay. Two stars for a polite server, a hard-working busser, a fairly clean establishment, and an average wait time for your meal. What turned me off was waiting for a refill while two servers, one hostess, and the owner stood around socializing. As an employee, you should never be standing around doing nothing. As a business owner, you should be instructing your employees to work! If you have no desire to put in effort to make your business succeed, then I have no desire to be a part of helping it.

Great local place in Villa Park. I have been here twice now and have been wowed by the exceptional service we have received by the servers! My coffee never goes empty here. I like this!

Yummy food & prices that can't be beat! The close proximity to my home helps too. It has breakfast, lunch & dinner & all are very tasty. They have many booths, which I like since I abhor sitting at tables. Service is usually great too.

Im blessed to have this gem in my neighborhood. Never had a bad meal here be it breakfast lunch or dinner or if its jam packed or just a few folks dining....service is always kind, prompt and correct. Favorites are the Gypsy skillet for breakfast but i have seen some mouthwatering french toast and crepe creations get served that made me think about getting somethin else the next time im in. The gypsy comes with their house pancakes which are amazingly fluffy and delicious. Friday night fish fry is always a good call as well. Fantastic breading on the cod and perch with a great tartar sauce and fresh lemons!! Love this place!

Want to know what I love?....nice people. Want to know who works here?? .... Nice people :) The place was slammed at 10am on a Sunday and every single person who was working had a smile on their face! I truly appreciate this as customer service doesn't seem to matter to many businesses lately. Oh! And the food is just as nice as the people!! I had the biscuits and gravy - biscuits were perfect and gravy barely needed any extra pepper. Boyfriend had the breakfast burrito and he loved it. Everything came out hot, too.

Have only ever been here for breakfast, and as far as that goes the hi-view is pretty good. Portions are really generous. The hash browns are particularly good. Place is clean. Service has always been quite good, although today our waitress was very blase to our table while being very friendly to another table of obvious regulars. While passing out or food she coughed into her hand, then continued passing out food. I couldnt take my eyes off her big thumb on every plate . Should be noted this is an exception as I've always gotten good service here.

I've been coming here regularly for about a year now. The food is wonderful. Jessica and Vicky are by far the best servers. Fast friendly and informative.
(4)Tommy G.
Great place great food always clean if you get Vicky or Jessica as your server prepare for great service

The food is fairly consistent and tasty. The service isn't above and beyond though. My husband and I have been here quite a few times and would go back.

Praise the Lord! When you need it, when you can't or won't cook it yourself, it's here. Super hot, super fresh, super olde fashioned chicken soup with little pasta shells. No matter the day or the weather; as close to home cooked as if they had taken up residence in my kitchen. I don't care what my neighbors may have thought I had concealed in this little brown paper bag. To me, it was Heaven ... in a little Styrofoam cup.

I've been here twice now. The yogurt with the honey and walnuts is nothing short of AH-MAY-ZING! Seriously. If you don't like yogurt, you won't say that after you eat Hi-Views yogurt. The owners wife makes it homemade. Impressive!!! The food is good and at a decent price. With all the fru-fru restaurants out there trying too hard, it's nice to go to a restaurant that knows how to make the kind of food people like. Simple as that.

I cannot begin to describe how amazing the homemade Greek yogurt is at Hi View. First of all no restaurant has homemade Greek yogurt. No one. It's not something you can find. I ordered it and it came with chopped walnuts honey and a banana. It was amazing. Absolutely amazing. I have been dreaming about it every day. Will be back soon to get more!!

Rating: 4.1/5 Short description: Family style Greek restaurant Similar to: Omegas Pluses: friendly service, huge and diverse menu, good hours, inexpensive Negatives: few negatives, but can be a little slow sometimes Recommendations: try the skirt steak and eggs, and you can get a pancake as 'toast'. Their ham and egg sandwich is awesome too.

Been here a couple times w the fam. Decent food decent price. I like it, Will be back.

I had breakfast here while waiting for an oil change at a nearby mechanic. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. I found the restaurant to be clean and the service staff friendly. My hash browns were "grease-free" and as I am not a lover of hash browns found them to be delicious. My only complaint was that I would have liked my English Muffin to be whole wheat-but how picky can you be?
(4)Rosie M.
Went here for lunch yesterday. Service was great, fast and efficient. One of those regular Greek places with 500 random thigs on the menu from pancakes to shrimp creole. I had a chicken tender wrap with fries and a cup of soup. It was regular diner food so nothing to write home about but still decent to fill you up. It was busy so they must have regulars but Id either try breakfast next time or find another diner.

It's been about 10 years since I've been here. Same environment, very family friendly. Food was great; cream of chicken with rice was up to par, Greek salad was fresh and salty with the anchovies... Yum! Good service, and great desserts! Oopa!

So part of our move to Chicago was finding a good Greek breakfast haunt. This place is close, not all that expensive and has a good biscuits and gravy. No big surprises here. It passes the "Cream of Chicken Rice Soup Test" with flying colors. Honestly, it'd be a four star joint EXCEPT every time we go in there it's always 90 degrees. I don't get it. Are the owners trying to save money on air conditioning? Was everyone who works there born on the sun? There's nothing worse than trying to enjoy a good cup of coffee and actually feeling yourself sticking to the plastic covers of one of those booths. Knowing that the heat will be cranked... we still go there about twice a month anyway. I guess we're willing to sacrifice comfort for a good cream of chicken rice. Service is definitely some of the better we've had in the VP.
(3)Lori S.
We may have been the youngest people in there by about 20 years but these old people know what's good. The waitress was friendly and service was good. The basket of bread was hot and fresh and soup was delicious. My club sandwich was huge. Could barely get my mouth over it. My wife's steak sandwich was so tender it melted in my mouth when I tried it. If I could have I would eaten her whole steak too. I would definitely return again.
(5)James M.
Without a doubt the best Greek Skirt Steak around. Tender and juicy. It doesn't matter if it's steak and eggs, Skirt Steak Sandwich or a complete Greek dinner with salad. I love it. They also have an excellent half chicken or fried chicken dinner special. I never get tired of eating here. My first visit was over 30 years ago and I'll be eating here for many more.
(5)Matt M.
This place is not bad. It does not, however, live up to its fancy "Look how dinnerific" I am exterior. The food is about Dappers/Kappys/Hollywood quality as to be expect. The staff may have had the building built around them, and they may be there after it is demolished - pretty standard, If you are there, meh... if not don't bother making a special trip to go here.
(3)Windy L.
Food was horrible....found a hair in my fruit....my poached eggs were not even cooked well and rubbery which I could have cooked in my sleep blindfolded and waitress got my order wrong bringing out two when I ordered three. Literally nobody out of 7 walked away happy and a $74 bill to boot. Wouldn't send anyone I knew there....bad food, bad service plus hair equals NEVER again.

I have been going to Hi View since I was little. I love going here especially for breakfast. I personally recommend the crepes and french vallina cap. The soups are amazing. The people that work there are always helpful. Basically, hiview is full of good people and good food.
(5)Steve W.
Diner quality food and not a bit more. Good size portions, not a lot of flavor. Horrendous service. Will not return.

A terrific family-owned and run restaurant with great food. We do fit "the demographic" as other reviewers have said (over 55), but I don't see what this has to do with the restaurant. Villa Park is not exactly the hub of hipness - what would you expect? Our service always has been exceptional. My husband always leaves a 20% tip cuz service is so good.. The Sunday special of baked chicken is to die for! Chicken is fork-tender with crispy skin. Dressing has apples and raisins in it. Gravy is delicious and they make REAL MASHED POTATOES. BLT clubs are fantastic and the fries are coated and fried to perfection. Friday fish fries are great. Cheesburgers, too. You get lots of food for your money. Breakast potatoes are delicious - fresh cut. Home-made rice pudding. Ok - some negatives: coffee is kinda like dish water they don't make omelets - they make a slab of cooked eggs folded in half with cheese on top.
(5)Susan D.
We have done breakfast here many times and it's always excellent. Huge portions, tasty food. Found myself craving a club sandwich the other day so stopped by for lunch. Ordered the BLT and while I didn't get exactly what I ordered (there was turkey included in my sandwich), I could not fault the attentive service by the extremely friendly and cute server, even tho I was there by myself with a book. She remembered my order of extra mayo, and I really enjoyed my lunch stop in between errands. It was a great treat, and I found myself wishing I had time to linger over some ice cream! Next time maybe!

We don't really fit the demographic for Hi-View, being that we're, you know, in our 30s and such. But the food is pretty good and the service is usually decent. It's not fine dining by any stretch - it's your basic diner fare - but they make some good skirt steak, per my husband, and the soups are always yummy. I was glad to find they have some healthier options now, too - I really enjoyed their veggie sandwich this evening. The parking lot is small and you may need to find the secret parking behind the bar next door but that's really the only major issue I can find with Hi-View. Good stuff!
(4)Lydia Z.
The food is pretty good, not everything is great though, don't order anything too exotic. Really good price for what you get. Service is usually pretty good. I like several of their daily specials.

I don''t know how I could have forgotten to write about Hi-View in all my musings. The burger hound and I have been coming here for at least seven years, and they have yet to displease me. Their breakfasts are yummy and filling. The service is unbelievable.I don't drink coffee, but I am a tea drinker. Never have I had to ask them to refill my tea pot with hot water. The servers there are always efficient and friendly, the hostess on the weekend is also on the ball the food is always hot and quick to come the table. I had the cream of spinach soup there a while back, and it rocked my little world. The chicken was moist and tender cooked quite well, very flavorful. And as it is literally across the street from our house it tends to be our go to place when we can't decide what we want. With luck we will be going here for years to come!
(4)David C.
It has been a while since the last time we have eaten at high view because our experience was bad. But we decided to give it another chance. Summary of visit prices went up and food quality went down. I can understand having to raise prices in this Obama economy but don't cut at both ends by making appetizers smaller and using lesser quality ingredients.
(2)Yurgen Y.
Love this place, nothing better than hangin' with the blue hairs eating comfort grub. Recommend!
(5)Johnny T.
Mainly an old fashion family diner with a lot of seniors but, don't let that discourage you. I got the broiled tilapia, which was on their special, for $8.95, which was 2 nice-sized fillets, two sides(potato & pea, carrot, corn mix) & a bowl of soup. (the beef barley soup was very flavorful) The fish also was flavorful. The bill came to about $35 for three people. Seemed like the place had a lot of regulars which were on a first-name basis with the staff here. The waitresses were also accommodating & very attractive. (a lot of them seemed late teens early 20's) And not to sound like a pervert but, I would go back just on that one reason alone. (aaahh, seeing them in the waitress uniform lol)
(4)Amy S.
Went to go have an early dinner and were to to wait even though there was open booths and tables. As we waited 2 old ladies came in and were seated before us even though we were there first. Horrendous customer service. Owner should be ashamed. Will NEVER return
(1)Judy T.
We've been there 3 times and each time was pretty good. As another reviewer said, lots of seniors but the food is pretty good. Big menu with lots to choose from. Although my husband's prime rib wasn't cooked to his perfection, we will still go back. I'm amazed at how they get such a variety of foods out to everyone. It seems to work.
(4)Suz C.
A reliable diner with typical diner fare. I usually enjoy my lunches here, but the last time I was there, I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs tasted a little weird so I cut through one and noticed that while cooked on the outside, they were totally raw on the inside. Ewww. But good service and menu selections.
(3)Booda B.
Well, it's a diner. The service is attentive, but STOP REFILLING MY COFFEE WITHOUT ASKING ME! I'm touchy about that, since I'm a mega-wuss who likes lukewarm coffee with a very specific amount of cream and sugar. I've only had breakfast here - taffy apple pancakes, which were good. Not awesome, but no complaints. Except for the coffee refills.

Hi-View rules. Great food, great service. Just wish they were 24/7!!!!!!!!!
(4)Anthony G.
the food here is great, i love their sandwiches and burgers. i lived up the street for a few years when i was in high school and it was the best place to go on a Saturday morning after a night out. and yes the majority of the customers are older folks, but the waiters usually like to get the younger crowd their food first because we keep them amused.
(5)Jerrod M.
was going great til i found a wad...yes WAD of hair in my food...wife asked why i didnt call them back.....well thats easy im never going there again.....gross....and for some reaosn when i was there there were bricklayers hanging out in the kitchen...i know that because they all had superior chimney coats on.....weird
